leaving las vegas....

well, i'm moving back to maryland the first week of january.  i'm driving on the 3rd to phoenix to hang out with eric for a couple of days, and then we are going to do the cross-country drive back to maryland.  lucky for me he offered to help me out.  i mean, who could resist the chance to spend 3+ days with me in the car?

oh, and i had to put this super cute picture of sascha up.  she is such a sweetface.

unfortunately, erics condo complex doesn't allow large dogs, so sascha has to be boarded.  she will be staying at the doggy spa in north scottsdale.  you can see that here.   i hate boarding her, im always afraid something will happen.  so at least this way i don't have to worry as much.

I know i haven't been blogging too often, but i finally have a few things to write about, so here i am.

First off, I got a job at Findlay Acura in Henderson, NV. I'm pretty excited about the opportunity, the people there seem nice and hopefully it will work out. I don't like to jump around from store to store, so i'm hoping this is a match. I start tomorrow at 8 am. They are closed on sundays and alternate schedules....one week you work 8-6 and the next week from 11-8. Seems pretty fair. Really the only bad downside is the fact that its far away. It's 23 miles away and there is a lot of construction here, so realistically I'm looking at an hour and 15 minute commute each way.

Nevada is an odd state. In order to have a salespersons license, you have to have a nevada drivers license. So, i had to switch my license, get fingerprinted and get my sales license. Now i have to register the mercedes here. $1200 for license plates, and thanks to the rate of claims and uninsured drivers in Las Vegas, my car insurance is going to go from $623 for 6 months to $1858!!!!! And, my car payment will be going up since Nevada taxes lease payments at 8.75%. Bankruptcy anyone?


Next, as much as i hate to admit it, "blackout" by britney spears is awesome. make fun if you want, but that CD rocks. for the pop music genre, i don't think it gets much better than this.

Sascha had a tumor on her back leg, right at the joint where her leg bends. they did emergency surgery to remove it. shes had a rough time, whining and crying....she bled through her bandages so i had take her 3 days in a row to get re-bandaged. $1700 thank you very much. now i just wait for the pathology report. the vet was pretty straightforward and told me to expect the worst, but that they did get everything out.

My fucked up health insurance company (united healthcare, they can suck my balls), declined my emergency room visit from september. i had all the forms in place and the referrals done, but now the hospital wants $1924. I called and raised hell with the insurance co, so i'm now going to wait while they re-open the case.

Meanwhile, i needed to get a second phone. One with my main 202 number that i've had for 8 years that im going to keep as my personal phone, and then one with a local 702 number to put on my business cards. So, i ported my 202 number to a new iphone and got a 702 number transferred to my razr.

I was promised that the iphone is tough and difficult to break. I managed to have it for all of 36 hours before i dropped it glass down on the tile floor and shattered it. Luckily i put it on my american express card, and they give you 90 days accident insurance on purchases. So i have to fill out the forms and send in the dead iphone and they are going to credit my account. I have to say, out of all of my credit cards, AMEX has always provided the best service by far.

So, thats really all for now. Everyone keep your fingers crossed that the new job goes well. Now I need to try to reschedule my workout routine since im going to be working a full time job, and previously i was going to the gym from 2-330p every day. Im not sure if my trainer can work with me at night....if not, i'll have to try someone else. i desperately need to get into shape. I had to buy size 46 jackets and size 40 dress pants. out of nowhere my weight has skyrocketed to 221. a year and a half ago i weighed 155. so not cool.

drift gently into mental illness....

ok, so the posting title is from one of my favorite songs ever.....mirror in the bathroom by the english beat. i saw them at the 930 club last year, and i found out they were going to be here in vegas at the house of blues. so i rushed over to mandalay bay to buy a ticket.

turns out i rushed for nothing. i get there saturday night to see the show, and there is almost nobody there. apparently they don't pull a big crowd in vegas. the house of blues ended up giving tickets away for free and the place was still empty! there were maybe 150 people there.

i have to give them props tho, they played like they were in a packed stadium of 15000 people. amazing set, played for about 90 minutes. it was a really good show.

next on the list is marilyn manson....i have tickets for their halloween show at the palms.

other than that, nothing really too interesting to report. i've been going to the gym 5 days a week and training really hard, but i haven't lost nearly as much weight as i'd hoped. im getting stronger, but not thinner. blah.

started looking for a job, although i haven't had much luck on that front. dealers don't want to hire salespeople with too much management experience i guess, they like their salespeople to be in the dark about finance/pricing/etc. i think i'm going to have to dumb down my resume to even get an interview.

well, im hungry now, so i'm going to go find some lunch. will post more when i have something interesting to say.

im a wynner...

well, today was a much better day. im sore from the workout with the trainer and the hour on the elliptical machine, but hopefully i'll be able to stick to this routine. i have 51 pounds to lose over the next 5-6 months. we'll see how it goes.

$2800 at the wynn tonight. and they are going to comp me tix to spamalot.....sweet. i saw the original in new york and it was amazing, so im looking forward to seeing it here.

it was an arctic 96 degrees here today. i actually could drive with the windows down and the a/c off. sweet.

workout

well, today is my first day of working out. i have an appointment at 12 with my new personal trainer. i hope it goes well since im inherently a lazy bastard.

lost playing cards last night. so not cool. everything was going great and then it turned into a bloodbath. painful.

went to cvs, got my prescriptions, then went to the clark county animal shelter so i could get sascha registered. there is a huge dog park here for her to run around and play, but you aren't allowed in unless the dog has a las vegas tag on their collar. so, i got that done and im going to take her to the park tomorrow morning before it gets too hot.

went and had some breakfast at this place called the bagel cafe. its like a new york deli. completely orgasmic. whitefish salad that would make you slap yo momma.

after that, i decided to go the wynn to play a little blackjack (shocker, i know).....won $750 in 20 minutes. since i have no job, i took the money and rolled the fuck out of there with a quickness.

going out for dinner with amy and some of her friends in a bit. thats about it for today.

today

well, last night was seths last night here in vegas and the end of our week long journey cross-country. we stayed at the bellagio (comped, of course...haha).

had a great time, i won $1350. all is well in the world.

viva las vegas

ok chirrens.....we made it to vegas with no problems. the drive from new mexico to nevada is completely awesome. 580 miles, we made great time, and it was so completely beautiful.

coming through the mountains is amazing, and we drove up I-93 through the hoover dam into las vegas. totally amazing. the only time we had to slow down was when we hit a major rainstorm outside of flagstaff arizona.

off to vegas

well, we are off to vegas today, we'll be leaving around 12. its 580 miles from albuquerque to vegas, so it should be a pretty easy drive (unless we get another fucking blowout).

ABQ is a totally cool town, i can see why people live here. very laid back, totally beautiful, nice weather, low cost of living, etc.

we've been staying with seths friend tanya, she was gracious enough to let us stay at her house for the weekend.

yesterday she took us around town for the tour, and we drove up into the mountains so we could get a view of the entire city. its something like 10600 feet above sea level. the view was AMAZING.

anyway, thats all for now. we need to get cleaned up, get some food, and get ready to roll. there is incredible food here, we ate at a place called frontier on saturday....the most unbelievable breakfast burritos on the planet. so, we'll have to go get some this morning before we leave!!!

continental tires, mercedes-benz and oklahoma can all suck my balls

those of you reading this know that i am on a cross country drive from maryland to las vegas. i have my friend seth and sascha-dog with me. we drove from maryland to dallas straight through no problems, spent a couple of days in dallas hanging out, and then set out on friday for albuquerque new mexico to stay with seths friend tanya. perfect scenario, its like the half-way point from dallas to vegas.

in the middle of oklahoma (erick, oklahoma, in case you want to look that shithole up on a map), we blew out the back left tire on my car. this is the 2nd flat i've had since i got this damn car in march.

i have the sport package, so my car wears continental 245/40/R18 low profile tires. now keep in mind, these are the tires that mercedes puts on the car. so, you would think that perhaps a mercedes dealer might have one in stock......

no. such. fucking. luck.

the closest mercedes dealer to us was over 200 miles away, and no tire shop anywhere had a tire even close.

we had to drive on the spare (not fullsize, by the way) for FOUR HUNDRED FUCKING MILES at 50 miles an hour to albuquerque, where the local dealer here was able to put on an 18" continental tire, but its the wrong one. so when i get to vegas, i need to order a new fucking tire.

mercedes-benz customer care is only open from 9-5 monday through friday eastern time. lets just say i feel bad in advance for the poor bastard in the call center that gets my call.

ok, so we made it to dallas in record time. left kensington at 2pm and rolled in at 830 in the morning. drove all night through. i am a highway MACHINE, bitches. word.

sascha was cowering in the back seat the whole time. it took 12 hours before we could even get her to drink some water and eat some kibbles.

props to seth to helping me stay awake on the drive, and 2 snaps to eric for watching seths 2 dogs while we are on the road trip.

ok, im heading off to bed so i can get a decent nights sleep. im leaving for vegas in the afternoon. we are driving from here to dallas, then to albuquerque and then finally to vegas. i've never done a cross country before, so it should be fun.

vacation

well, im on vacation officially. i leave for vegas at 8am, and im gone until friday. its about time. i need a damn break.

went out for drinks tonight for ryans going away blast at carpool. it was fun for the most part, but there were some people there that i really need to stay away from. luckily, john got completely shit-faced and needed to go home, so i had an excuse to get out of there.

im looking forward to table games coming to charles town. apparently they are having a referendum next week to bring cards to the charles town races and slots. that would be completely bitchin, since i wouldnt have to drive all the way to atlantic city every time i want to gamble.

table games just an hour away. that would be so sweet.

i hate birds

so i come home from work on friday night and it looks like there are white paint spots on the floor and on the couch. i couldn't figure out what it was, so i cleaned it up and went to bed.

turns out the was a fucking bird in my goddamned house and it left presents everywhere.

how did it get in, you ask? well, apparently during the last storm, some of the siding on the house was damaged near the roof. birds are getting in through there, and one made it through the ductwork and came out in the office (the vent wasn't covered, long story, dont ask).

so now i have to get siding people to fix the house and check the attic to make sure there arent more birds or a fucking nest in there.

goddamned birds. i hate them.

ok, for those of you in the know, the cardaddy has been rather disappointed in the performance of the E320CDI in the snow, rain, ice, etc. After being towed multiple times for getting stuck, I started to think about getting something front wheel or all wheel drive instead. Still, its hard to beat 300ft-lb of torque and 35mpg.

So after going to the post office to mail off my taxes, I decided to go take a quick look at Euromotorcars. After walking around the lot, I saw some 4Matics with the sport package. What I really wanted was white with black interior, but thats something pretty much impossible to find. They had black, silver and green with black interior, but all the white ones had tan inside.

Tan interior + black doberman pinscher = disaster

Then it happened. I walked into the showroom. Every car in the showroom was white. They had a white CL550, R500 and C350, all with tan interior. I was getting ready to leave when I realized there was a white E class with black behind the C350. I walked up to it and saw that it was a 4Matic with the sport package.

so i ended up leaving atlantic city a day early because of this goddamned storm that blessed washington dc. i was doing really well, and ended up winning about $3500. the table that i was at was great and i was pissed that i had to leave early. anyway, its a good thing i did. i got home last night to see water pouring down my street.

there was a fucking water main break. we. have. no. water.

washington suburban says it will be back on by 3 or 4. bastards.

so...

im in new jersey visiting family. i took a few days off after the class from hell last week. yesterday i was in delaware at my brother and sister-in-laws house. im at moms now, heading to lakewood to visit my aunt and uncle. after that im going to head to atlantic city, im going to be there for a couple of days.

apparently we might have a snowstorm or something on tuesday, that might throw my plans off. my car is horrible in the snow and i need to make sure that im home before it hits.

it was a pretty decent drive up here. i got the david sedaris box set of his audio books. ive never been a fan of audiobooks, but as hilarious as his stuff is, its even funnier to hear him read it. i saw him read at lisner auditorium a few years ago, and the audio books are just as funny. i laughed most of the way here.

i'll let you know if i win this time in a/c.

Misery

So I'm in finance school this week, and im stuck at a shitty hotel in Herndon (that i had to pay for). The class is 10 hours a day and incredibly intensive. They even video tape you. Tonight I have 4 hours of homework and I have to memorize a 2 page interview. Seeing as I have no short term memory these days, I'm kinda thinking this isn't going to work out to well.

I'm bored and lonely in this craphole hotel.
